特色介绍|Feature introduction

Sri Lanka

With documented history dating back 3,000 years and evidence of prehistoric human settlements dating back at least 125,000 years ago, Sri Lanka has a rich cultural heritage. The earliest known Sri Lankan Buddhist writings, collectively known as the Pali Canon, date from the Fourth Buddhist Council held in 29 BC. Sri Lanka's geographical location and deep harbor have made it strategically important, from the earliest ancient Silk Roads to trade routes to today’s Maritime Silk Road.

Ceylon black tea production area

[Nuwara Eliya] is the tea-producing center of Sri Lanka's mountainous area. It is 1,889 meters above sea level. You can see large and small waterfalls along the way. The black tea produced here is high mountain tea (more than 1,200 meters is considered high mountain tea). The Chinese Yunnan black tea tree was introduced during British colonization and has now become one of the four major black tea producing areas in the world. The temperature here is relatively low, so you need to wear long sleeves. Because the architecture is very British (it was once ruled by the British), the local area is also called "Little England".

【Dambulla Royal Cave Temple】

Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock rises 160 meters above the surrounding plain. There are over 80 documented caves in the surrounding area. The main attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings. These paintings and statues are related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings, and 4 statues of gods and goddesses. The latter include Vishnu and Ganesha. The mural covers 2,100 square meters (23,000 square feet). The cave paintings include the temptation of demons and the Buddha's first sermons. Prehistoric Sri Lankans lived in these cave complexes before the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka, as the area contains a burial site of human skeletons dating back approximately 2700 years, located in Ibbankatuwa near the Dambulla cave complex.

Habarana

A spectacular rock column visible from miles away, Sigiriya is geologically the hardened magma plug of an extinct volcano. Historically, the origin of the ruins is disputed and is believed to be either a royal fort built during the reign of King Kasyapa (477-495 AD) or a Buddhist monastery.

You'll pass beautiful murals and a sheer "mirror wall" before reaching the giant stone lion's claw, which gives the rock its name "Lion Rock". The old staircase leading to the top passed through the mouth of a crouching lion, but today only the massive paws remain, indicating the massive proportions of the head. The hilltop covers an area of 1.6 hectares and was originally completely covered by buildings, but today only the remains of the royal castle are visible.

It takes 1.5 hours to 3 hours to climb up the rock and back. (Depending on your fitness, age and crowd.) There are approximately 1,200 steps to the top of the rock, where you'll be rewarded with panoramic views and, of course, the sense of accomplishment of completing the climb.

Accommodation in Habarana

Kandy City Tour: Ride the upper lake to the top of the mountain for a bird's eye view of the city below, driving around the man-made Kandy Lake known as the Milky Way Ocean, which is a lovely central part of the town. Kandy Lake was created in 1807 by Sri Wickrama Rajasingha, the last ruler of the Kingdom of Kandy. Also visit the massive Bahirawakanda statue, one of the largest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka; this beautifully carved white statue shows the seated Buddha in the Nirvana pose and can be seen across the entire city of Kandy stretching out in front of it. You can also visit gem and jewelry workshops and showrooms.
